Description

Join us for a pivotal grassroots advocacy event!

The Arc of DFW Area and The Arc of Texas share a mission of promoting and advocating for the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and empowering them to live self-determined lives.

We invite members of disability organizations across the DFW area and their allies to join with us to begin developing new short-term and long-term strategies for improving community-based services for Texans living with disability. No individual person or organization can do this alone. We must work together to build a new path to a better future for our Texas disability community.

This event is accessible to all, but space is limited. Please contact us for any specific accommodations you may need.

Why Attend?

  • Be Heard: Share your experiences and ideas.
  • Learn: Understand the current policy landscape.
  • Collaborate: Work with like-minded advocates to drive positive change.

What to Expect

This is a 2-hour event and we want everyone to leave with new allies, defined action items, and a renewed spirit to create change. When you register your name you are saying “YES!” to actively working with allies to establish a path forward for the Texas disability community. This summit is just a beginning. Your ongoing participation will be needed.

The Agenda

  • Before: Prior to the summit you will receive a list of priority policy issues and be asked to choose which one you are most invested in.
  • During:
    • We will provide a status update on the policy priorities.
    • We will lay out our vision for this grassroots campaign.
    • You will have the opportunity to share your experience and ideas to refine the vision.
    • You will sign-up for a working group assigned to a policy priority.
  • After:
    • The Arc will coordinate an organizational meeting for each working group.
    • The Arc and our partners will assign a policy contact to each working group for updates and questions.
    • Working groups will choose a leader and establish a regular meeting schedule.
    • Working groups will receive and distribute updates and ideas for their policy with the assistance of The Arc and our partners.
    • Working groups will recruit additional members to participate.
    • The Arc will schedule future summits for working groups to come back together to share their work and discuss strategies.
